Local Insights: Cardiff & surrounds

The area is home to some of Newcastle’s oldest suburbs, with Cardiff being established as a coal mining town in the late 19th century, transitioning over time from a primarily industrial area to a residential one.

The town centre of Cardiff is a busy commercial hub, and nearby Glendale is home to the Hunter Sports Centre and the Stockland Glendale Shopping Complex. Cardiff Train Station connects residents to the Central Coast and Sydney, with many commuting each day for work.

The area offers a number of parks, sports fields and recreational activities, as well as schools like Cardiff Public and Cardiff High. Lake Macquarie is also a short drive away, meaning many look to this area as a more affordable option to buy homes but still be within close reach of the lakeside lifestyle they desire.

Newer builds can be found within the Macquarie Hills area, a leafy suburb with its own shopping centre and childcare centres.

The highest average house sale in recent times was $982,500 in Garden Suburb, while units in the area can sell for around $600,000 or less. Homes in Argenton can expect to return on average around 4.18%, while apartments in Cardiff average 4.63% returns.
